By Lynn News Reporter

Next month a brand new event is taking place at the Corn Exchange in Lynn.

Yes I Can … is designed to help people who may face barriers, challenges or difficulties, to offer the support they need to achieve things they might not have thought possible.

It has been developed by councillor Sue Fraser, the council’s disability champion, employment adviser at the Department for Work and Pensions.

Yes I Can … takes place on Tuesday, September 18.

It will draw together a whole range of organisations including, charities, business and support groups, to help point people in the right direction.

Whether they need help getting back into work, are looking for a way to live a healthier lifestyle, need to find out how assistive technology can help or are simply looking for things to do to avoid being lonely, this event will provide useful advice.

The event starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm. There is no need to make an appointment.

Mrs Fraser said: “Since becoming disability champion, what has struck me most is the range of help and support there is available, particularly through the voluntary sector.

“I think this is a real opportunity to reach out to people and show them that with the right support they can achieve the things they want to - whether that’s getting into training, learning interview skills, making new friendships or just building some confidence”.

“I have worked very closely with Susanne Johnson, disability employment adviser, from the Department for Work and Pensions, to put together an event that will really help people overcome their own personal barriers to build the kind of life they wanted.

“Yes I Can… is a determined and positive statement and it’s what we want people to feel when the leave the event.

“Yes I Can find a job. Yes I Can learn to swim. Yes I Can succeed.”

Ms Johnson added: “I would urge people to get this date in the diary.

“More information about the organisations attending will be available shortly.”

Organisers of the event are seeking raffle prizes.

Anyone able to donate a prize should get in touch with cllr.susan.fraser@West-Norfolk.gov.uk
