Ten Mile Bank pototo farm visit for Liz Truss
With the potato harvest well under way, South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss joined Alastair Kerr from Waldersey Farms.
They met in Ten Mile Bank to discuss future overseas opportunities for potato sales, potato branding, and the importance of mobile phone connectivity in rural areas, staffing, infrastructure and investment allowances.
Waldersey farms encompass 14,000 acres, growing a mixture of wheat, onions and potatoes and is also recognised for its commitment to environmental and wildlife protections.
Ms Truss, the Foreign Secretary, said: "Great to chat to Alastair, meet some of the staff from Waldersey and see the potato harvest in action. We had a really positive discussion about the opportunities for farming in the future.
"There are some fantastic producers in South West Norfolk, and agriculture in East Anglia contributes a significant £3.3 billion to the economy.
"I am very keen to support farmers in my constituency and will continue to raise with government colleagues any local challenges that maybe faced by them.
"I also fully understand the importance of mobile phone connectivity and is an issue that I have previously pressed network providers on.
"I want to ensure that South West Norfolk is digitally connected and will be discussing this further with the relevant organisations."
Mr Kerr said: "We were very pleased to have Liz visit the business and we are encouraged by her support for the future of the industry."
