South West Norfolk MP and former Prime Minister Liz Truss reacts to news of Downham Market special needs school plans




An MP has expressed her delight after the announcement that a school for children with special needs will be built in Downham.

South West Norfolk MP and former Prime Minister Liz Truss has welcomed the news that another school will be added in her constituency.

It was announced today that plans were given the green light by Norfolk County Council for the school that would provide 100 places for children aged between five and 18 with communication or interaction needs.

The school is expected to open in September 2026.

Liz Truss said: “I know from the number of cases I deal with from concerned parents locally that the provision of suitable education for children with special needs is a pressing and urgent issue.

“This announcement is excellent news and the opening of the new school cannot come a moment too soon.

“I will continue to press the Department for Education and the County Council to ensure that all children in South West Norfolk get the best education, appropriate for their needs.”
