Docking Primary School opens new library thanks to the help of Hunstanton and District Round Table
A new library has opened at a primary school, allowing pupils to read a new selection of books.
Docking Primary School has officially opened its new library with up-to-date books for the pupils to enjoy and read.
The school wanted to restock with appropriate texts to support the children's learning.
Rebekah Woodrow, executive head teacher at the school, said the majority of the books were old and dated, and many of them were either ripped or in poor condition.
She said: “Our library is not currently one that promotes a love of reading as these texts, in the condition that they are in, are not inspiring the children nor are they encouraging them to read.”
The Parents and Friends Association group at Docking has been busy fundraising by putting on events including, school discos, a Christmas Fair, and non-uniform days and managed to raise around £4,000 of their £6,000 target.
After the school reached out to Hunstanton and District Round Table 615 to see if they would be able to help, they donated the £2,000 required.
This has enabled the school during the summer holidays to purchase all new reading books for the library, which now means the children have a brand new selection of books to choose from.
