Nelson Academy in Downham Market raises £750 on Autism Acceptance Day
A West Norfolk primary school was busy fundraising for Autism Acceptance Day last week.
Pupils and staff at Nelson Academy in Downham raised a total of £750 after taking part in various activities throughout the day on Thursday.
The day was organised by the school’s SRB (specialist resource base) lead Cornelia Leach.
The school has a specialist Autism SRB which provides children with autism at Nelson Academy with any extra support they may need.
Ms Leach said: “The whole school took part in Autism Acceptance Day, dressing in different colours as the theme this year was ‘colour’.”
Pupils took part in a sponsored walk outside and learned about what autism is and how they could support those on the spectrum.
Ms Leach continued: “The children also created colourful pieces of art which will be displayed in school.”
World Autism Awareness Day was on Sunday, April 2 and is used to celebrate neurodiversity.
