Pro-Europe campaigners will stage a protest event in Lynn tomorrow, following the decision to suspend Parliament next month.

More than 1.4 million people have now signed an online petition against the move, which will mean MPs do not sit for several weeks in September and October.

And members of the Norfolk for Europe group have now organised what they are calling a "Stop the Coup" event this Saturday in the town centre, from 11am.

Group chairman Rob Colwell said: “Downing Street told us Parliament was powerless to block an undemocratic No Deal but now Boris Johnson is in a panic.

"He has disgracefully dragged the Queen into the heart of the most outrageous exploitation of the usual powers of Government."

But North West Norfolk MP Sir Henry Bellingham yesterday defended the move, arguing the Prime Minister had the right to set out his own legislative programme.

Today, a Scottish judge rejected calls for an interim injunction preventing the shutdown, although a full hearing on the application will take place next week.
