Wisbech incinerator plans progress forward in new update
An application for a waste incinerator plant being built in Wisbech has taken another step forward.
MMV Medworth has told West Norfolk Council that the plan has been accepted for examination, meaning that the proposal has now progressed further to a Development Consent Order (DCO) of acceptance of the application by the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) for examination.
This is despite West Norfolk Council objecting to incinerator plans earlier on this year.
A ‘Relevant Representations’ period for the DCO will run from Tuesday, October 4 until Tuesday, November 15.
West Norfolk Council has said it will register as an interested party for the DCO and will be drafting a Relevant Representation to submit to PINS by the November 15 deadline.
The council’s technical officers are reviewing MVV’s application submission and will present their comments to the November 7 planning committee before sending the council’s response to the Planning Inspectorate.
Anybody who wants to comment at this stage can register as an interested party.
The £300million burner would be situated on the Norfolk border and could handle more than 500,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste a year.
Concerns have been raised about pollution levels in the area.
A hard copy of the application form, together with copies of the application documents, are available to collect from the first floor of Wisbech Library during the dates of the Relevant Representation period.
Norfolk County Council also objected to the plant being built.
The tower would be 95 metres tall and be situated 750 metres away from Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech.
