The Golden Lion Hotel at Hunstanton reopens for business after being closed for four months
Hunstanton's historic Golden Lion Hotel is roaring to go now its doors have reopened after a four-month closure with most former staff who lost their jobs reemployed.
To their delight, they returned to their roles when the hotel on The Green was back in business on October 2. Several members of the team have worked together for years and did their utmost to keep the hotel in business before the collapse of its previous owners, the Specialist Leisure Group (SLG).
SLG, which owned a number of well-known tourism firms including Shearings and National Holidays, went into administration in May due to the impact of COVID-19.
However The Golden Lion was one of around 40 ex-Shearings hotels which were closed at that time but which were then taken on by the Warrington-based company, Bespoke Hotels.
A spokesman for Bespoke Hotels told the Lynn News: "I am delighted to say that The Golden Lion reopened early October along with another seven of the ex-Shearings hotels, bringing the total now open to 12 hotels, with the remainder set to reopen in March 2021.
"Giles Norwood, the previous general manager at The Golden Lion has also been reappointed to manage the hotel and a number of the previous team are back.
"The hotel will operate as a Bespoke Hotel moving forward and we look forward to welcoming visitors to Hunstanton as well as local people for dining and for weddings and private celebrations."
Giles Norwood told the Lynn News: "It's absolutely wonderful to back and I am delighted to have the main key players back on board. It's massive that we have joined Bespoke Hotels and we are looking forward to our future within the group.
"The feedback we have had locally has been outstanding with people really pleased to be able to visit again, whether it's for coffee, drinks and meals or to stay with us again."
