Proposals submitted for new McDonald's and Starbucks restaurants in Downham Market

Plans have been submitted to West Norfolk Council to create a new McDonald's restaurant and a Starbucks coffee shop in Downham.

The proposals, which were received by the council on Christmas Eve, suggest the two chains, along with drive-thru facilities, could be built on land at Bexwell Road, if the plans are approved. The application also includes car parking and a children's play area.

In a supporting statement, officials say the proposed development is to "cater principally for those motorists travelling on the A10 but can and may of course be used by residents".

"Whilst other motorist services for petrol exist in the wider surroundings, there are limited facilities to take a short break, or to purchase food and drink on the move," the statement adds.

Meanwhile, it says the proposed development would provide more than 80 jobs for the community.
