Peaceful protest will call for Burman House care home in Terrington St John to remain open
A peaceful protest this weekend will call on authorities to keep a village care home open.
Burman House Residential Home in Terrington St John will close in December - but a petition calling for it to remain open has so far gathered around 1,000 signatures.
People have been urging Norse Care, which runs the home, to keep it open - while there have also been calls for Norfolk County Council, which owns the building, to step in.
On Saturday, borough and county councillor Alex Kemp is leading a protest at Hardings Way in South Lynn to oppose the impending closure.
It will take place from 11-11.30am, with anybody welcome to go along.
“This is a stand for the frailest in our society,” Cllr Kemp said.
Norse Care said the main reasons for closing the home are the “growing complexity” of care required by its residents and the fact that current room sizes are inadequate for delivering complex care.
The county council owns the building and leases it to Norse Care, although the decision to close Burman House is not down to the council.
However, it remains to be seen whether the building will be used to house another care home.
It is believed that residents have already begun their moves to different care homes owned by Norse Care.
