Swaffham Town Council shuts public toilet building due to multiple incidents of vandalism despite introduction of 20p entry fee
A town council has closed a public toilet building after multiple cases of vandalism in the last month.
Swaffham Town Council made the decision to shut the town centre toilets until quotes and repairs have been sought as a result of damage to the facilities.
The authority said that “unfortunately, the toilets regularly suffer from vandalism” - with the most recent incident seeing the locks pulled from their frames which meant the toilet could not be secured.
On another occasion, just before Christmas, a surveillance camera which had been put up just two days earlier to monitor the area, was destroyed and had to be removed.
This has happened despite the 20p entry fee that was introduced last year to combat the increase in vandalism, which ultimately led to repairs having to be made out of the public purse.
