Could security measures be put in place in Swaffham to deter travellers?

A member of the public urged for more security to be put in place after a group of travellers was spotted near a town centre.

Concerns were raised about the group of caravans that were parked up in the Southlands area of Swaffham.

Member of the public Martin Mander voiced his concerns at the town council’s full meeting last Wednesday.

He said that the travellers were trying to get through a hedge and bollards.

He said: “Around two weeks ago, there were travellers parked up by Nelson’s gate. The police were called.

“Have the council considered adding security to Nelson’s gate? The smaller pedestrian gate is always open.”

The town council’s deputy clerk, Leanne Jarrett, said that two teenage boys and a girl were seen jumping on the fence.

“This was also reported to the police. They say they could be linked to the travellers in the town.”
