Upwell Academy given workshop on military geography by Major Anthony Gleave of the Royal Engineers

A primary school received a special visit from a military engineer who came to do a workshop.

Major Anthony Gleave met with the pupils at Upwell Academy to teach them about his role working with the Royal Engineers.

He conducted a workshop in which he showed the children how to read different types of maps including how to tell where the sun was shining on an aerial map and how that relates to the time of day and season.

Year 6 children felt inspired by Major Gleave as he talked about military geography and they asked questions.

The workshop made the children use their logic and reasoning skills as they considered the best place to situate essential services and shops based on the busiest roads, population centres and water sources.

Upwell Academy thanked Major Gleave for visiting and is looking forward to working with him more in the new year.
