QEH petition needs more signatures to be debated in parliament

More news, no ads

I am taking the opportunity to hijack this month’s Love West Norfolk column, to put forward a heartfelt plea for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital campaign.

Time is running out. While the petition we launched can run for six months, decisions on the hospital will be taken much sooner than that.

Realistically we only have until 9 September to reach the necessary numbers.

After a promising start, the number of signatories has tailed off. It is now more important than ever to sign the petition at

Go to https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/590390 and to confirm your signature by replying to the email you are sent once you have signed.

If one person in every household in West Norfolk signed the petition it would give us around 75,000 signatures, which is still below the 100,000 that we need to trigger a debate.

We need everyone with an email address to sign the petition as soon as possible, especially those that live in the catchment area of the hospital in West Norfolk, Breckland, North Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.

Many of you will have needed to use the services of the hospital, and many of you will have visited family and friends at the hospital. They provide an excellent service despite the difficult conditions in which they are having to work.

They now need our help and support. This isn’t a political matter. Your details will not be kept for any other purpose.

It is all about making sure that ministers know the situation and understand how vital it is that we get funding for a new hospital. If you wanted you could also write direct to the Secretary of State to ensure that he is left in no doubt as to the importance of funding a new hospital.

If you love West Norfolk like I do, and you understand the critical role the Queen Elizabeth Hospital plays in our community, please sign the petition today.

Then get your family and friends to sign, and ask them to get their friends and family to sign. I firmly believe we can do this. If we want our hospital to survive, then we need to make sure we make some noise.

This is going to matter for years to come.
