King’s Lynn Queen Elizabeth Hospital Feltwell Ward manager Sam Jude shortlisted for BAME Nurse of the Year Award
Sam Jude, Feltwell Ward manager at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), has been shortlisted for Nurse of the Year in the 2022 National BAME Health & Care Awards.
The National BAME Health & Care Awards celebrate Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) staff and networks across British health and social care who are making significant improvements in BAME career development support and forging better healthcare initiatives for their communities.
He was nominated for his outstanding contribution to the British Indian Nurses Association (BINA), where he is an executive lead for the East of England region, and his active role in supporting Indian nurses in and around Lynn.
Marimouttou (Coumar) Coumarassamy, associate director of operations at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS FT and founder and chair of BINA, nominated Sam and said: “Sam is a value-based Nurse leader and always goes the extra mile to help the nursing community – something he usually does in his own time – and we need more leaders like him for the betterment of our BAME nursing community.”
Coumar added: “I’m incredibly proud and privileged to work with value-based leaders like Sam, and I wish him the very best.”
Chelsea Kirk, equality, diversity and inclusion lead at QEH, said: “I am incredibly proud of Sam and all the work he has achieved.
"Sam is the chair of QEH’s BAME network, where he strives to make changes in supporting our patients and staff. It’s fantastic to see Sam recognised for all of his hard work.”
Sam, from QEH, said: “I am very honoured to be shortlisted for the award. The last couple of years have been challenging but despite the challenges it is great that all the efforts put into developing and promoting the work around equality, diversity and inclusion has been recognised.
“It has only been possible through the collaborative effort and teamwork at Team QEH and beyond. A special thank you to the British Indian Nurses Association for their invaluable support through the years.”
The awards ceremony takes place in London on June 9.
