Norfolk-based Radio Wensum to launch this week

A Norfolk man with a passion for radio is launching a new community radio station this week along with a raft of presenters.

Radio Wensum is the brainchild of Rob Lee, who wants to bring a ‘local feel’ to his online-based radio station that plays music from the 70s up to the present day.

Rob has recruited a team of volunteer presenters who will host breakfast and afternoon shows as well as club classics and more.

Radio Wensum will officially launch on November 1 and will be operated remotely by volunteers from across the county.

Rob said: “It is a non-profit organisation set up to fill gaps left by local radio and to bring back a local feel to radio with local content that matters to Norfolk people. It will be accessible online, on mobile apps, tablets, Alexa and on Virgin TV.

“This has been a strong passion of mine having previously worked for both commercial and online radio in the past.”

He added: “The station's name idea came from the river Wensum which I happened to be passing by at the time near Anglia Square when racking my brain for a name for the station.”

Rob will be presenting the drive-time show on Radio Wensum on weekdays between 4-6 pm.
