James and Sons Auctioneers in Fakenham hosting online auctions selling collectables
Antiques lovers can get ready to bid on an array of different items this week.
James and Sons Auctioneers in Fakenham will be hosting a series of online auctions selling unique collectables, including vintage radios.
There are 200 radios and clocks in total including a classic portable radio from Bush and a record player from Hi-Fi.
There is also a vintage HMV portable gramophone, circa 1931, that is in excellent condition and expected to go for between £100 and £150.
There is also the radio from a World War Two Lancaster Bomber; these iconic planes were based along the east coast of England in the war.
The Marconi R1155 included special circuitry for direction finding; in addition to the receiver, there is a separate power supply and audio amplifier. This essential collector’s item for any World War Two enthusiast is in excellent condition and estimated to make between £200-£300 at auction.
David James OBE, owner of James and Sons Auctioneers, is excited about this collection and has enjoyed having the pieces on display in his shop on Norwich Street in Fakenham.
He said: “This is a rare opportunity to bid on, and potentially own, many unique and highly collectable radios and clocks. These items are very popular, as they fit in with a retro interior but provide a quality reliable sound.”
There will also be quilts from The Meador Williams Heath Quilt Collection from Tennessee and Kentuky in the United States.
Some of the quilts date back to the 1930s and have been made by multiple generations of the Meador family.
Other lots include antique letter stamps that would have been used to wax seal important documents and include materials such as bone, quartz, onyx, jasper and pearl.
There will also be Hornby trains and fine china too.
David added: “The cost of living crisis is pushing many people to have a clear out of collections that they own that may be worth something at auction, preferring to have the cash for essential living costs.
“This has meant that I have been very busy driving around Norfolk to collect these amazing items, and then valuing and cataloguing them for auction with my team.
“Since we went online with our auctions in 2019, we have seen more and more interest from around the world in the items we sell, with lots often selling in the United States and Asia.”
The full listing for the sales on September 2, 3 and 4 can be viewed online.
