RAF Marham issues noise warning ahead of night flying training exercises taking place over next two evenings

Residents living near an RAF base in West Norfolk have been warned that it is set to conduct night flying over the next two evenings.

Aircraft from RAF Marham will be taking part in training exercises tonight and tomorrow evening until a later “airfield opening time” of 10.30pm.

In a post on its Facebook page, officials said: “The night flying is taking place this week to maximise the dark nights before the clocks go forward at the end of the month.

“As much flying as possible will be conducted over the sea in designated training areas, but residents in close proximity to RAF Marham may notice an increase in aircraft noise during the indicated evenings as aircraft depart and recover to the airfield.”

According to RAF Marham’s website, night flying is “an essential part of aircrew training” and usually takes place from Monday to Thursday.

“Depending on the operational requirement, the aircraft will generally have landed by 11pm,” a statement on the website adds.

RAF Marham is the home of the F-35 Lightning, a multi-role, stealth fighter jet.
