Rain fails to dampen spirits at Forties-themed Narborough Village Fair

Classic cars, a dog show and live music were all part of a Forties-themed village fair at the weekend.

It was the second year in a row that Narborough Village Fair had rain to contend with, but the weather failed to dampen spirits, with around 1,000 people attending on Sunday.

Officials said about £1,200 was raised on the day which will go towards the upkeep of the village’s community centre.

To add to the Forties theme, a team from the Dad’s Army Museum in Thetford also made an appearance and music from the era was provided by The Swingtones at the event, which also had a variety of stalls, games and demonstrations.

Committee member David Burchell said the poor weather affected a couple of the individual events, but overall the committee was pleased with how the day went.

He added: “Despite the weather, the event was really successful, and a big thank you goes to all those who did support us, especially the small group of volunteers who, throughout the year, plan the event and over the three days of the long weekend give up a lot of time to set everything up and make the event the success that it was.”

Now in its 9th year, this was the first time that the fair had a Forties theme, which “went down extremely well”, and officials are hoping to bring the theme back again for next year.

A post on the event’s Facebook page added: “A big thank you to all: stall holders, food vendors, exhibitors, public and four-legged friends, who despite the drizzle attended today.

“There are far too many groups and people to thank so please accept this as individual and group thanks. It really is appreciated.

“We hope you had an enjoyable day.”

Next year’s event is set to take place on Sunday, July 26 on Chalk Lane from 11am to 4pm.
