By Julie Graham, Business Editor

Fakenham auctioneers James and Sons has sold a collection of rare cigarette cards for thousands of pounds.

The cards were from a huge collection consigned by a former Lord Mayor of London.

Auctioneer David James who has over 50 years experience in the business said: "It's the best cigarette card collection I have ever seen."

Virtually every item in the sale found a buyer, with some old Taddy & Co sets selling especially well. A 1900 Dogs set, went for £1,100, and Taddy Natives of the World 1899 went for £1,250. A very rare Wills 1896 Cricketers set sold for £1,325.

These prices helped the whole collection to raise in excess of £20,000.

James and Sons will be selling more cigarette cards at the end of September, and in the intervening period will also be running other auctions. Details are available on the website www.jamesandsonsauctioneers.com and www.the-saleroom.com
