Ingoldisthorpe residents say ‘scrapyard’ property poses safety risk as multiple Rover cars line Brickley Lane West

Residents are concerned that a man’s growing hoard of scrap cars on a village road is posing a safety risk.

Those who live on Brickley Lane West in Ingoldisthorpe say the collection started to appear two years ago - and has only “gotten worse” since then.

More than a dozen seemingly abandoned Rover cars can be seen on the short 160 metre-long single-track street, and at least ten of them are parked up on the grass verges.

Surrounding some are piles of other items, including wooden planks, old furniture and concrete blocks.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “Nobody seems to care. It’s taking over the road.”

She told the Lynn News that on one occasion a lorry could not get through, leaving her worried that in the event of a medical emergency, an ambulance or fire engine may not be able to not either.

Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “His property is like a scrapyard.

“It not only causes an unsightly mess, but it blocks cars from passing down the road.”

Those in the area say they feel “powerless”, and despite urging West Norfolk Council to step in, the authority has yet to issue a notice.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We are talking to the homeowner, residents, and other agencies there to resolve the situation.”

Norfolk County Council, which is responsible for roads and highways, has also been approached for comment.

One other resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Lynn News that cars apparently owned by the same person have been popping up in various different locations - including in Lynn.

They have also been spotted at the Carole Brown Health Centre and Co-op in Dersingham, Home Bargains in Lynn, and other spots in Ingoldisthorpe.

“The vehicles get moved around,” the man claimed.

“One week you will see them in a car park somewhere, and then they will end up somewhere else.

“They also appear to be moved during the evening or at night. It does seem very odd.”
