Mr Swaffham 2023 competition held at Tutankhamun Emporium on Market Place

Residents donned their best suits and flashiest underwear as they vied for the title of Mr Swaffham 2023.

The competition, the first of its kind, was initially thought up as “a bit of a joke” until several enthusiastic competitors voiced their genuine interest. It was held at Tutankhamun’s Emporium.

More than ten contestants, with the youngest being 36 and the oldest being 69-years-old, came together to participate in the event – which included an underwear round and a suit round.

The organisers of the event were Rebecca Ward, who was dressed as “Maureen Compton” to compere the afternoon and Susan Allen who is the owner of Tutankhamun’s Emporium, which hosted the show.

They were both very pleased with how the event turned out and the support that was given.

Five judges – Scarlett Allen, Marie Jermey, Stephanie Cooper, Daniel Studd and Sue May – had to make the tough decision on who the winners were.

In first place as the winner was Richard Turner, a carpet fitter, who has been crowned Mr Swaffham 2023.

In second place was Martin George, a scaffolder from Swaffham, and in third place was Wayne Frohawk, who is an on-call firefighter.

Town councillor Stephanie Cooper presented the winner with a robe, crown, and certificate.

Rebecca said: “The afternoon was a big laugh and a lot of fun.

“The place was packed and everyone thought it was one of the best afternoons they have had.”

Due to its popularity, the same event is planned to take place again this time next year.
