A long-awaited and much-needed project to bring the Kingsway Pavilion up to modern standards has now been completed thanks to funding from West Norfolk Council and Sport England’s Inspired Facilities – an Olympic legacy fund.
A £148,500 grant was awarded to the project from Sport England with the remainder of the money coming from West Norfolk Council.
Work on the £312,430 project began in September 2014. The refurbished pavilion was formally opened by councillor David Pope on Tuesday evening.
Councillor Pope said: “I am so pleased that I am able to open this much-needed facility.
“It’s hard to explain how bad the previous facilities were, but these new changing rooms will mean that all three pitches can be fully utilised and more teams will be able to play there.
“Having consulted local leagues and the Discovery Centre as well as following Football Foundation guidelines, I think we have come up with a facility that people can be proud of and where everyone is properly catered for.”
