A1101 Welney Wash Road closes following flood alert

A West Norfolk road has been closed this afternoon due to a flood alert.

The A1101 Welney Wash Road has been shut, with the Environment Agency warning that it expects river levels to remain high while the alert is in place.

The flood alert, which was issued yesterday afternoon, urges residents to plan driving routes in Welney, as well as Mepal and Earith areas of Cambridgeshire, to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

Welney Wash Road was closed yesterday due to the flood alert, but had reopened this morning.

Norfolk County Council has confirmed that it has shut again this afternoon, while the Environment Agency has said it is "closely monitoring" the situation and liaising with the Highways Authority.
