Roadworks and traffic lights are to blame for heavy congestion see in Lynn this afternoon (Friday, July 24).

Traffic jams have been seen across the town centre and one driver has reported a 50 minute journey to get travel from North Wootton to Gaywood.

Norfolk County Council has apologised due to a problem with the roadworks on Tennyson Avenue and traffic lights on Edward Benefer Way.

A spokesman said: “We’re aware of the congestion currently taking place in Lynn, and we apologise to all road users for the inconvenience.

“The issue is with the traffic lights attached to the roadworks on Tennyson Avenue, which should be controlled manually, and an engineer is currently en route to fix the problem.

“This unfortunately coincided with earlier problems with the traffic signals on Edward Benefer Way, which have been fixed.

“We apologise again for the traffic, and expect the problem to be resolved shortly.”
