Rotarians in King's Lynn collect £2,500 for Australian bushfire relief effort
West Norfolk’s contribution to the relief effort in Australia has been boosted by £2,500 after the funds were collected by Lynn’s three Rotary clubs at the weekend.
Members of the clubs set up collection points in the town centre and at Asda South Wootton on Saturday in a bid to support those affected by the devastating bushfires.
Organiser Bill Irwin, who has relatives living near Sydney, said: “The collection went very, very well. We were very pleased.”
He said a number of people who gave money also had connections to Australia.
“What was really nice is people who were over from Australia, who have family there, or who have been there before, came up and donated,” he added.
Also among the donors were a South Wootton pupil who had collected £64 and a man who gave about £40 after saving the money up to give to a good cause.
The funds will be split between causes supporting wildlife, evacuated families, and the families of firefighters killed while on duty. The appeal is still open and anyone wishing to donate can do so by ringing Mr Irwin on 01553 772910.
