Saddlebow man sentenced to community service for assault
A hospital orthopaedic practitioner found guilty of assaulting a woman and sending her menacing messages has been ordered to carry out 120 hours’ unpaid work.
Ryan Trevor Oakes, 23, was also ordered to pay £620 prosecution costs following the trial.
As he appeared at King's Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for sentencing, the bench was told that he still does not accept any responsibility for the assault on what was then his ex-partner.
The incident happened on March 19 and the court was told this week that the couple were in the process of resuming their relationship. At the trial, the woman was treated as a hostile witness and much of the evidence came from her original statement to police.
The court heard how Oakes went to her home and accused her of seeing someone else.
He pushed her on the bed and pinned her down to get her mobile phone. He punched her “three or four times” to the head. Both of them moved towards the bathroom before Oakes threw the victim on to the bed and she fell off it, rolling into a ball to protect herself. Oakes threw the phone at the wall and left.
He later called and sent a message saying he wanted to meet her and the man outside her workplace and making threats.
Oakes, of High Road, Saddlebow, Lynn, had denied assault by beating and sending menacing messages.
He was given a 12-month community order with the unpaid work requirement and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days. As well as the prosecution costs he was told to pay £85 victim surcharge.
