A Scalextric race night for young people in Sutton Bridge proved so popular that the adults now want to have a go themselves
The venture that grew from the Rev David Oxtoby’s one-time hobby could also lead to a race club being formed at St Matthew’s Church, in the village.
Mr Oxtoby said the deanery wanted a series of events for young people.
He said: “This idea of Scalextric racing came from a hobby I had a number of years ago, and since I still had some of the spare track and cars I decided this might make for a fun evening.
“I started to buy second hand track and cars from different places, and assemble the racing track at the back of the church, growing to the point where we now have a reasonably sized four-lane race track with computer timing and lap counting, and a lot more cars.”
Friday’s event attracted a dozen young people, who were served pizza, and an adult event with a fish and chip supper is planned for February.
