Primary schools in West Norfolk are being offered 150 free places in the Bespak mini GEAR Fun run to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The places, allocated at 10 per school on a first come, first served basis, are being promoted and administered the West Norfolk School Sports Partnership on behalf of Bespak Grand East Anglia Run.

All schools need to do to register is go online to

Primary schools in the Methwold area should contact David Llewellyn at the Iceni Academy on 01366 728333.

Bespak is also offering prizes to primary schools that have the most children participate on the day (as a percentage of their school roll).

The school entering the most children will receive £800 of educational equipment.

The school in second place will receive £500 worth of educational equipment and the school in third place will receive £200 worth of equipment.

Jo Dickson, school games organiser with the West Norfolk School Sports Partnership, said: “This is such a generous offer from Bespak. Not only have primary schools got the opportunity to take up free places and participate, but by doing so, and encouraging other youngsters to participate, schools could win valuable educational equipment for their school.

“It’s a great event to be involved with and this incentive just makes it even better. It’s not surprising we’ve already had a lot of interest from local schools.”

One school, which already has its sights set on the big prize, is St Martha’s RC Primary School.

Headteacher Aidan McGovern said: “Children and staff are really excited about taking part in the Bespak GEAR and Mini GEAR in 2014. “The challenge for us is to get as many children and adults participating in each race as possible.

“Initial interest has been fantastic and we are hoping to win the first prize for the largest school entry.

“In addition to encouraging staff, children and parents to take part, we are also encouraging everyone who signs up to raise money for Whizz Kids – a charity which provides wheelchairs, buggies and trikes to disabled children – helping them to retain mobility and maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

Bespak MD Keyvan Djamarani added: “The Bespak Grand East Anglia Run is a great way to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. The introduction of the mini-GEAR Fun Run a few years ago really broadened the appeal of the event, and we really want to focus on getting young people involved so that they develop healthy lifestyles. We are delighted that we are able to support schools in this way and have been really impressed by the interest shown so far.”
