Scooter sisters support King's Lynn hospital charity appeal

Sisters Polly Anderson, aged nine, and Robyn Symons, aged seven, are raising money for the Lynn News' charity of the year, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital maternity bereavement suite appeal by travelling 30 miles on their scooters.

Accompanied by parents James and Ellie, their baby sister, and dog, their target is to travel a total of 30 miles around their local area over the next two weeks. The money raised will contribute towards QEH’s Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal.

So far, the girls have received support through 42 donations amounting to £565.

Robyn’s mother, Ellie Anderson, said: “As a family we are really active, and at the moment going for a walk and getting fresh air is the highlight of our day!

"So Polly and Robyn decided they wanted to put this time to good use and do a sponsored scoot to raise money for the new Maternity Bereavement Suite which desperately needs funds in order to support families.

"This is a big challenge as they actually only have eight days in the next two weeks to do this as they want to do every mile together as a team. So if anyone sees them please give them a wave of encouragement!”

The Maternity Bereavement Suite will provide a dedicated facility for bereaved parents who sadly lose their babies during pregnancy or shortly after birth.

The quiet and private space will enable parents going through this unimaginable time to create precious memories with their baby, in a safe and comfortable environment separate from the clinical setting.

With thanks to funds raised by the local community and the Trust’s own charity, the much-needed redevelopment received the go-ahead in November 2020, but further funds are urgently needed to furnish the facility and make it as welcoming as possible.

To raise further funds for the Maternity Bereavement Suite, QEH is calling on the local community to donate items for an online charity auction taking place later this year. If you are able to donate items for the auction, contact QEH Fundraising Executive Laurence Morlaàs on 01553 613373, or Laurence.morlaas@qehkl.nhs.uk. Items including artwork, coins, stamps and military and sporting memorabilia are welcome, although furniture cannot be accepted.

You can also donate to the appeal by making cheques payable to ‘Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal’ to Finance Department, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gayton Road, King’s Lynn PE30 4ET.
