Several days of home-grown lettuce was the secret behind the success of the new world snail racing champion, according to his owner.
George, not named after the prince but one of the central characters in the Peppa Pig children’s television series, claimed the title after winning one of 12 heats and the final, which were held during yesterday’s Congham fete.
Owner Dale Thorne revealed he had been found in the garden of his mother’s home in Gayton on Tuesday.
Describing the victory as “brilliant”, he said: “We’ve just been feeding him home-grown lettuce.”
He said he would try to bring George back to defend the trophy next year.
