Strictly Come Dancing star Thom Evans was in West Norfolk today, Tuesday, February 10, to show how he is training the PG Tips Monkey for a Comic Relief challenge.
The popular character will be seen undertaking a monumental challenge of climbing the Shard in London during next month’s fundraising spectacular.
Mr Evans, visited the No 1 Bootcamp in Heacham on Tuesday to demonstrate the sort of training methods needed to take on the challenge of scaling the 1,000 foot high building.
And the former Scotland rugby union international, who has just completed a 31-date arena tour following the BBC series, was full of praise for the “fantastic” set-up of the coastal retreat.
He said: “A lot of people come here to achieve their goals. It’s fun for me to come here and see it firsthand.”
The camp, which has been running for six years, is regularly used by celebrities to help them get into shape under the supervision of professional trainers, many of whom have previously served in the armed forces.
It has since expanded to luxury sites in Ibiza and Marrakech in Morocco and manager Claire Simcox hopes the latest link will encourage more people to see what they have to offer.
She said: “People come to get fit, get healthy and we promote rural air, good diet and training.”
Mr Evans is one of three celebrities supporting the Shard challenge, alongside football pundit Robbie Savage and TV personality Lucy Mecklenburgh.
He said it was a “huge honour” to be asked to take part, but quipped that Monkey was not happy with him after he had ordered him to cut down on his intake of bananas.
