Seeing stars at Abbey’s open-air film nights

Some well-loved classic films will feature in three open-air cinema evenings at Creake Abbey.

The abbey, situated three miles south of Burnham Market in beautiful North Norfolk, hosts a full weekend of screenings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 20, 21 and 22.

The Star and Mouse Picture Show, the trinket-cinema firm based in Cambridge, will offer a cinema experience that Norfolk’s movie-lovers will never forget.

The open-air cinema movement is now well-established, but The Star and Mouse Picture Show treats its guests to a few special extras.

Firstly, there’s no risk of not hearing properly as each viewer is given a wireless headset.

You can also leave the camping chairs at home because your ticket includes seating.

All you’ve got to do is remember to bring a blanket and dress warmly. And for those who want to be extra toasty, hot water bottles are available to hire for an additional fee.

Cambridgeshire singer-songwriter Miles Stopher will entertain the crowds before each of the screenings to ensure a festive atmosphere.

And there’s plenty on offer for those feeling playful in the form of fun and original garden games. Dogs are most welcome.

With its wide open spaces, beautiful skies and birdlife, Creake Abbey is the perfect setting for such an evening.

You are invited to arrive early (anytime from 7.30pm) to reserve your seating and raise a glass or three with friends at the bar.

The much-loved Creake Abbey Café will be serving delicious chicken or vegetarian fajitas, or hamburgers, plus sweet treats and local popcorn and ice cream.

Diana Scott, founder of Creake Abbey, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Star and Mouse Picture Show to Creake Abbey. They know how to put on the perfect open-air cinema evening with entertainment, from the moment you arrive until the credits roll, and a real focus on comfort for every viewer.

“Do come early to reserve your seats, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy pre-film supper in and around the barns before the film begins.”

The film line-up is:

Friday, July 20 – Casino Royale

Saturday, July 21 – Moulin Rouge

Sunday, July 22 – Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Entry is £15 (includes seating, headsets, additional live music, garden games).

Seating is unreserved and is managed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Film start time is estimated at 9.30pm (the film will start once it is sufficiently dark).

Additional features on site: food from the Creake Abbey Café, fully licensed bar, live music, pre-film entertainment and hot water bottle hire.

In the event of severe rain or wind this series of events will go ahead indoors in the barns adjacent to the Café.

Picnics are strictly not permitted. All food must be purchased on site.
