Sutton Bridge RAF memorial service
RAF Sutton Bridge is a former Royal Air Force station found next to the village of Sutton Bridge and the airfield was to the south of the current A17, and east of the River Nene, next to Walpole in West Norfolk.
A memorial service took place in St Matthews Church on Sunday, September 5.
Known as the Propeller Service, after the monument of the propeller near the bridge, the congregation meet to remember and give thanks to the former RAF base and the service people who lost their lives in wartime.
Revd Paul Carery-Slater has recently been appointed priest in charge at St Matthews and he said: "I am new to the area and it was a real privilege to lead the service and be involved.
"It was really good to gather together and remembering is important. It was a beautiful day too so the weather helped. People value being back in that way and it was a good turn out.
"Active remembrance and thanksgiving is part of the service and representatives from the RAF base nearby joined in."
