The owner of a Setch sex club has hit back at criticism of her plan to seek a licence to open an adult shop at the site.

Victoria Seed has applied to West Norfolk Council for a licence to open a store at the Annex site in Garage Lane.

The proposal, on which public comments will remain open until June 30, has been criticised by the head of the area’s parish council who claimed it was “not appropriate.”

But Mrs Seed, who obtained planning permission for the club last December, said: “I haven’t had any complaints. The only responses I have received have been positive.

“I think it is appropriate that adult entertainment venues should be licensed so they can operate within legal guidelines and it can be checked on that they are operating correctly.

“We work with Matrix, a national health project, which makes sure people behave safely and appropriately.”

She said she would not be selling sex toys or outfits but would not explain why she needed the licence.

But Paul Foster, chairman of West Winch parish council, said: “I would not have thought a sex shop is not appropriate in a hamlet like Setch.

“Hardwick Industrial Estate is full of empty units which would be a more appropriate place than a residential area.

“I am surprised that a sex shop would be appropriate in Setch.”
