King’s Lynn residents asked to share stories for innovative project at this year’s Festival

Residents and those with a connection to Lynn are being invited to share their stories as part of an innovative sound project for this year’s Festival.

The festival has teamed up with Eastern Angles theatre company to create a unique “sound collage” – an immersive audio trail through the heart of the town, built using the voices and memories of the local community.

The soundscape will be designed by acclaimed sound designer Jack Baxter and will feature during the festival, which begins next week.

Stories are being collected from people of all ages and backgrounds, capturing the spirit of Lynn through memories of family life, childhood adventures, favourite shops, and reflections on the town’s architecture and natural beauty.

Poems written by local schoolchildren will also be featured.

The audio trail will launch on Saturday, July 19, starting and ending at the Alive Corn Exchange.

The 30-minute circular walk will allow listeners to experience the town through the words and sounds of those who know it best.

Festival manager and co-artistic director Anna Pool said: “King’s Lynn Festival is not only about musical excellence but also about celebrating the heritage and community of the town.

"We’re thrilled to be working with Eastern Angles, who are experts in community storytelling, to help bring local voices to the forefront.”

To help gather even more memories, an adapted red phone box will be installed in the Corn Exchange foyer during the first week of the festival, allowing people to record their stories directly.

Eastern Angles’ Kirsty Tallent added: “We’re excited to be part of this creative collaboration.

"We’re holding two free public workshops at the Corn Exchange on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15 and 16, from 11am to 1pm. Drop in for a cup of tea and tell us your story.”

For those unable to attend, stories can also be submitted by email to kirsty@easternangles.co.uk by Friday.

Free tickets for the audio trail are available now via www.kingslynnfestival.org.uk, where the full festival programme can also be found.
