Shouldham fete is now one great day

Perfect weather guaranteed that Shouldham village fete on the village green got off to a flying start with plenty of attractions to cater for all tastes.

There were tractor rides around the villages, pony rides for younger visitors, a tea tent, a barbecue and a wide variety of stalls.

“The weather is great,” said a delighted Emma Gibson, the chairwoman of the village committee. “A lot a people have come out to enjoy the afternoon.”

Keith Matthews, one member of the committee who had been involved with the fete from the start, said it had originally been a two-day event with the fete on the Saturday and sports on the Sunday, but in recent years they had decided to combine all the events into one day.

“The aim of the fete is to raise money for local good causes, such as the church, the village hall or the school,” said Mrs Gibson, who added that they were grateful to the volunteers who helped with the event and the community which came out to support it.
