Snettisham entrepreneur Susanna Lemon's mail order brownie business is going down a treat
A 24-year-old entrepreneur from Snettisham has turned her passion for inventing and baking the most delicious cakes into a thriving business.
Susanna Lemon founded the Simply Cake Co just over a year and a half ago and now sends her products out across the UK having established a mail order brownie company.
Using facilities at the Krusty Loaf in Fakenham, she bakes all the items herself and then carefully packages them ready for the post.
She said: "I started my company with one aim; to get people to eat great cakes again! The market is flooded with average cakes but I believe if you're going to treat yourself, I say make that treat count with every bite.
"With this in mind I started the mail order brownie company, so everyone in the UK can taste our amazing gooey brownies. They are all handmade in Norfolk, with free range local eggs, Belgian Chocolate and proper butter. Our brownies are very indulgent and make a perfect treat."
After gaining a degree at Leeds University in product design, Susanna went on to work for Unilever on a graduate scheme, but felt this wasn't for her, so she left.
"I have always loved baking and used to take my brownies to work with me. I spent ages perfecting the recipes. So I thought this was the right time to set up on my own," she said.
"I had a lot of support from the Krusty Loaf, who allowed me to use their space rent free to start with and this enabled me to invest in a gazebo for events and more ingredients.
"I also have lots of support from members of my family along the way."
Susanna regularly attends the Lynn farmers' markets in the Saturday Market Place and other West Norfolk venues. "I think people really value local products."
She has created several seasonal products, including some Halloween treats, and has just launched a range packed with festive flavours.
These include mince pie blondies, candy cane brownies, gingerbread brownies, Nutella and hazelnut brownies, cranberry and orange blondies and almond and marzipan brownies. A box of six brownies costs £14, which includes postage.
Also new is a Bake Your Own Brownie kit, which costs £14 and includes everything needed to make a tray of brownies, just add eggs and butter.
