Downham Market social venue's future is ‘safe’ following fears it might close

Officials at social venue in Downham have said it will be able continue for “at least” the next three years, after fears for its future.

It comes after bosses announced there were plans to sell the Downham Market Club on Paradise Road in May.

They said this was due to the costs of running the club exceeding the income being generated from club activities.

But the committee has since announced on Facebook, in a post on Friday, that the “future of the club is safe for now”.

The post said: “Your committee are pleased to announce that the future of the club is safe for now and it is very much business as usual, as the committee have reached an agreement, subject to contract, which will see the club able to continue for at least the next three years and hopefully beyond that, with the bowling green retained through to the end of the 2020 season.”
