Hunstanton holds spectacular event to mark the anniversary of VE Day

Last night saw a “spectacular” event mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Hunstanton Town Council, North Norfolk Holiday Cottages and Jak Ropa of NUAV Ltd came together to light up Hunstanton’s lighthouse - while the traditional firepit beacon on The Green was ignited by mayor Cllr Michael Ruston.

The wash of deep red along with an “iconic” silhouette of the VE Day soldier was projected onto the lighthouse, displaying a solid beacon of remembrance across the cliff front.

The town hall was also lit up in bold red, white and blue, while the high street was decorated in union jack bunting and flags - with the neighbouring Princess Theatre doing their part and lighting up in blue.

“It was a fantastic turnout with locals and holiday makers coming out to support the event and passer byers pulling over to take photos of the spectacular light show,” Mr Ropa said.

“A brilliant community, a forward thinking town council and local business brought this VE Day together - and what a success it was.”
