Swaffham Football Club host wheely good fundraising event
A sponsored bike ride and gin festival took place at football club over the Bank Holiday weekend as fundraising commenced for two chosen charities.
Chairman of Swaffham Town Football Club, Brendan Holmes, has announced Scotty’s Little Soldiers as his charity of the season with funds from the event going towards this cause.
Mr Holmes said "I am delighted to announce that I have chosen Scotty's as my charity for the season. Having been involved with the charity in the past they are very close to my heart and am delighted that the club will be able to support the charity home and away during the season."
The club has also announced it will be supporting the Offside Trust, organisation committed to supporting survivors of child sexual abuse.
In November 2016, British football was hit by a series of high-profile revelations regarding child sexual abuse. Several former professional players bravely waived their right to anonymity to speak out about their past abuse.
A number of those involved, decided to set up the Offside Trust.
Both charities will appear on the sleeves of the club’s new Swaffham Building Supplies sponsored shirts.
The club is looking at ways they can support both charities throughout the season with the first of these being the gin festival and bike ride.
The top prize was a hot air balloon ride, while there were also a signed Norwich shirt, Gin from Fenspirits and an MOT from RNS Auto Centre on offer.
The club play within the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division and kick off their league campaign on Saturday at home to Brantham Athletic.
