LEARN MOREA group of villagers in Walpole Cross Keys are planning a sponsored walk to support Lynn News' Charity of the Year.
The event will be happening on Saturday, July 9, in support of the 8:56 Foundation, a mental health charity, set up in memory of Lynn man Lee Calton, who took his own life.
Organisers Kerry-Ann Lawrence and Angela Warner have decided to put on a sponsored walk around the village to raise money for the charity, with three routes differing in distance to suit people's ability.
Kerry-Ann said: "I started a Facebook group called Walk and Talk in King's Lynn to assist people getting out and going for walks, whilst talking and making new friends.
"The idea of the group was for all members to be able to organise walks at their own pace and invite others along.
"Some are leisurely walks, some dog walks, some village trail walks and some power walks.
"Having been supported by Angela with this group and events since the start, we decided to put on a sponsored walk around our local village and to raise money for a local mental health charity, as that is a fundamental reason our group was set up, to support people's mental and physical health.
"We chose the 8:56 Foundation as it is a charity close to many people's hearts within the local community.
"The walks start at Jephson Hall at 10am and will consist of three routes around the village so that anybody and everybody can take part and choose a route for their ability.
"There will then be refreshments available at Jephson Hall after the walk.
"We have been liaising with Raymond Sherring from the Foundation and have organised for there to be a stall sharing more information about 8:56 Foundation on the day."
