St Germans woman assaulted ex over date with 'close friend'
A man was repeatedly punched by his ex-partner after she found out that he had taken a best friend of hers on a date.
The victim, who had been in a relationship with Emma Elflett for 16 years, was attacked at her address in St Peter’s Road, St Germans.
Elflett, 45, will have to wait until next month for sentencing after the case was adjourned for a report.
King's Lynn Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday that the complainant was punched in the arm and back of the ribs before returning to his car. He turned on the ignition and put the driver’s side window down to tell Elflett not to attack the car as she had done on a previous occasion.
Prosecutor Robyn Khan said: “She continued to argue and reached through and punched him in the right eye.”
Elflett damaged the ignition mechanism as she made to grab the keys. Then she picked up a small stone and threw it at the bonnet of the Ford Ranger.
The victim suffered a black eye in the attack on May 6.
The court also heard of an incident the previous month when he was punched in the stomach and again after he had turned away.
In a statement read to the court, the man said he had thought “long and hard” about bringing the complaint. Elflett pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and a charge of criminal damage.
In mitigation, solicitor Ruth Johnson said there were two sides to every story but the court was only hearing one.
“She has been incredibly remorseful. It’s totally out of character, which is supported by her lack of convictions or cautions,” said Miss Johnson. “He had taken a close friend of hers - a close friend of the family - whom she had spoken to about the difficulties she was experiencing, on a date.”
Sentence will be passed on November 21.
