Betty Ward, 68, centre of picture, who has been working as a staff nurse in the hospital's day surgery unit for 20 years, has been celebrated by staff for her dedication and loyalty. With no immediate intention of retiring, she said: "I said right from the start that I wanted to do 50 years. I've done that now but I'm not going to stop."

The hospital's chief nurse Emma Hardwick has congratulated Betty on her 50 anniversary and thanks her on behalf of the QEH team.

She said: "Betty is still caring and sharing her wisdom and passion."
