Downham Greggs staff’s charity efforts make almost £2,500 for Children in Need
Staff at the Downham branch of Greggs collected almost £2,500 for Children in Need after a busy weekend of fundraising.
Despite the wind and rain, store manager Mandy Stork and supervisor Vicky Mott – together with the help of colleagues, family and friends – ran a tombola outside the store on Friday and Saturday, followed by a bingo night inside the cafe on Sunday evening.
They had the help of staff member Carrie McLachlan, who dressed up as children’s TV character Bluey, and Mandy’s husband Steven, who donned a Pudsey Bear costume.
They were also aided by Carrie’s daughter, Evie, Vicky’s husband Mike, and Pat Nadine-Hurley, Vicky’s mum.
Mandy said: “Over the whole weekend we raised £2,444.56. It is amazing. We had 80 people at the bingo and brought the outside seating inside as well.”
Prizes on the night included a buggy trip for four around the Watatunga Wildlife Safari Park at Watlington, golf for four at Ryston Park Golf Club, and a full car service at PB Autos in Downham.
The fundraising hasn’t stopped yet, with further raffles in store taking place and a final target of £3,000.
Mandy thanked all the local businesses who supported the event with prize donations, adding: “Without them, we couldn’t have raised this money.”
