Downham Market youngster has bike returned by King's Lynn mechanic Mark Mitchell after theft

A youngster was over the moon after having his stolen bike returned in tip-top condition.

The nine-year-old grandson of Downham woman Vicky Somerton, Freddie, had his prized bicycle pinched earlier this year - before it was found damaged in a town park.

Lynn man Mark Mitchell - a retired Norfolk police officer and now full-time bike mechanic - reached out to offer his services for free, and returned the fixed-up vehicle on March 4.

“Freddie was over the moon, as were his mum and grandparents,” Mr Mitchell said.

Thieves had pinched the bicycle twice in a matter of weeks, which struck a chord with the mechanic as he had his own stolen from him as a young child.
