Shouldham stroke victim fined for cocaine and cannabis possession

A teenager has been fined for having cocaine and cannabis in a caravan at his Shouldham home.

Police found a 'white rock' later confirmed to be 2.3 grams of cocaine plus 4.38 grams of herbal cannabis.

It was accepted that it was for Ryley Dale’s personal use, Lynn Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday.

Prosecutor Denise Holland said: “If he’d not given a no-comment interview he might have got a caution but we are where we are today.”

Solicitor Ruth Johnson, for the 18-year-old, doubted that would be the case as one of the drugs was class A.

She said her client disputed giving a no-comment interview but admitted not revealing how much he had paid for the drugs and where he’d got them.

Dale had turned to drugs after suffering a stroke as a 13-year-old and finding prescribed medication not much help, said Miss Johnson.

The court was told the strokes – thought to be triggered by anxiety or stress – have continued and the defendant suffered one two days after leaving police custody.

“Cannabis was suggested to him as a way of alleviating stress and he found that it did bring about a very relaxed state,” said Miss Johnson.

Dale, who admitted two counts of drug possession, was fined £138 and ordered to pay £105 costs and £34 victim surcharge.
