An inquest into the death of a boy who drowned while swimming at Bawsey Pits will not be held until two years after the tragedy, it has emerged.

At a pre-inquest review hearing into the death of Umar Balogun yesterday afternoon, Norfolk coroner Jacqueline Lake said a date for the full inquest would be set for June, July or August.

The 16-year-old, from the Waltham Forest area of London , drowned in a lake at the beauty spot on July 16, 2013.

Ryan Pettengell, 41, from Lynn, also drowned at the flooded quarry on the same day. An inquest into his death, held last February, heard he went into the lake to try and find Umar after hearing he had gone missing.

At the review hearing at Lynn County Court yesterday, legal teams also agreed which witnesses and documents would be presented to the jury when the full inquest is held in the summer.
