Pledges have already started to roll in for a dream to re-build Hunstanton Pier.
Up to 41 members of Hunstanton Civic Society met on Wednesday in the town hall to discuss the proposal to buy the Hunstanton Pier Family Entertainment Centre.
The centre was put on the market in August for £4.25million but £6 million could be needed to fulfil the dream.
Now members of the Civic Society are hoping to send letters to West Norfolk Council and the Government asking for support in buying the building and re-building the pier.
The letters will be drafted and submitted to the next meeting of the civic society committee for approval.
Hunstanton Town Council are also due to meet tonight to discuss whether to form a working party to look into the project.
John Maiden, who has been campaigning for many years to have the pier to be re-built, was at the meeting.
He said: “The campaign will take off if the council agree to the working party and the civic society approves the letters. I was slightly surprised with the unanimity of the vote.”
The hangar-shaped family centre was built on The Green in 2003 to replace the former arcade which had been gutted by fire the previous year. That arcade was in the entrance building to the pier, which was destroyed in a 1978 storm and later demolished.
