A dedicated group of Save the Children supporters in Swaffham have begun their fundraising activities for 2017 this week.
The group, whose numbers have occasionally changed since its inception, has been going for more than 40 years and has raised many thousands of pounds in that time, including £3,000 in 2016 alone.
Currently, the group has around 10 members and its first regular coffee morning of the year was held at the town’s Assembly Rooms on Saturday.
Fundraising co-ordinator Janet Webb said: “Once we used to have events such as jumble sales, social events, cycle rides and fashion shows.
“Now we just run nine coffee mornings a year, seven in the Assembly Rooms and two in the Methodist Rooms.”
“We’ve no what how much we have raised over the years and Save the Children headquarters have no idea either. “But we know the money goes on projects to help both children and their families in England as well as countries abroad.”
Further coffee mornings are scheduled to take place at the Assembly Rooms on March 18 and April 22 and the Methodist rooms on May 20.
Mrs Webb thanked all those who supported the events. Donations can be made to the group by phoning 01760 721929.
